    • A method of making a fibre mat, such as a non-woven fibre mat, comprising: (i) laying a plurality of layers of fibre web in a stack, each of the layers having a first surface edge, wherein each layer is laid at a position offset from the previous layer such that a first surface of the stack includes the first surface edge of each layer; and (ii) providing reinforcing yarn to one or more of the layers at a position away from the centre of the layer toward or at the first surface edge of the layer. The product of the method is a stack of layers of fibre web, each of the layers having a first surface edge, each layer of the stack being offset from the adjacent layers such that a first surface of the stack includes the first surface edge of each layer, the stack having reinforcing yarn provided to one or more of the layers at a position away from the centre of the layer toward or at the first surface edge of the layer. Also disclosed is an apparatus for carrying out the method.

The Nanomaterial Polymer Compositions are useful for optical and sensing devices including but not limited to noise suppression, passive Q-switching, mode-locking, waveform shaping, optical switching, optical signal regeneration, phase conjugation or filter devices, dispersion compensation, wavelength conversion, a soliton stabilization, microcavity applications, interferometers; optical, magneto-optical or electro-optical modulation; and biochemical sensors and photodetectors. The Nanomaterial Polymer Compositions are also useful in soft lithography processes.

    • An acoustic wave transducer substrate is provided, the substrate having a surface with a plurality of growth promotion sites for promoting the accumulation of polypeptide molecules at said sites. The growth-promotion sites are preferably for promoting fibril formation. The invention also provides a method of screening a candidate compound for an effect on fibril growth, including the steps of: providing an acoustic wave transducer substrate having a surface with a plurality of growth promotion sites for promoting the accumulation of polypeptide molecules at said sites; causing oscillation of the substrate; contacting the substrate surface with a sample fluid comprising polypeptide molecules and a candidate compound; and measuring one or more parameters of the substrate oscillation to monitor the accumulation of said polypeptide molecules of interest in the presence and absence of said candidate compound. Alteration of the accumulation of said polypeptide molecules of interest in the presence of said candidate compound as compared with that in the absence of said candidate compound indicates that the candidate compound has an effect of fibril growth.
