    • Stabilizing apparatus for inclined legs comprises a thigh engageable portion extending generally transversally along the width of the lap of a subject with which the apparatus is bodily engaged, two spaced appendage portions extending downwardly from the thigh engageable portion, a foot engageable portion positionable on an underlying surface, and a portion, such a connecting element and tensioning device, extending from each of the two appendage portions to a foot engageable portion.     • The invention is a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor to determine the presence and quantity of biological or chemical entities in an analyte. The sensor comprises a metal periodic structure deposited as a thin layer of a noble metal, comprising a one dimensional array of nanoslits or a two dimensional array of nanoholes on a transparent dielectric substrate, a nm- thick layer of transparent dielectric protection layer on top of the metal periodic structure and a functionalization layer, which acts as a binding layer to biological or biochemical entities in an analyte that is in contact with the functionaliztion layer. The sensor of the invention has the following properties: the spaces perforated in the metal are at least partially filled by a material with a refractive index as close as possible to that of the substrate; the thickness of the metal layer is no more than lOOnm; the refractive index, transparency and the thickness of the dielectric protection nanolayer are chosen so that it does not affect the sensor sensitivity; the thickness of the dielectric protection layer is no more than 20nm; and the presence of the material in the spaces perforated in the metal distances the analyte material from the metal-substrate interface, thereby improving the signal to noise ratio for the spectral/angular peak corresponding to the plasmon excited at the metal-substrate interface allowing this spectral/angular peak to be used as a reference relative to which the spectral/angular peaks corresponding to the plasmon excited at the metal- analyte interface is measured.

    • The invention relates to a two-mode intrusion detection system which comprises: (A) a plurality of magnetic sensing units, connected in chain-like manner and spaced apart from one another, each sensing unit comprises: (a) a magnetic sensor s for sensing a 3-D magnetic field vector of the Earth; (b) an accelerometer for sensing a 3-D acceleration vector evolving from the acceleration g of the Earth; and (c) first communication means for conveying said sensed 3-D magnetic field vector and said sensed 3-D acceleration vector to a proximate processing unit; B. one or more processing units, each processing unit comprises (a) second communication means for communicating with one or more of said magnetic sensing units; and (b) a processor for: (B.1.) during a calibration mode, receiving from each sensing unit respectively said magnetic field vector of the Earth as measured by its respective magnetic field sensor s, and said acceleration vector as measured by said accelerometer a, and determining, based on said magnetic field vector and said acceleration vector the respective orientation of each magnetic unit with respect to a predefined coordinates system; and (B.2.) during an intrusion detection mode receiving periodically from two or more sensing units magnetic field measurements as measured respectively by corresponding magnetic field sensors s, and based on said two or more magnetic field measurements, and the known orientations of the respective magnetic units, as determined by said calibration mode, determining whether an intrusion has occurred and the location of said intrusion.
