    • A voice emphasizing device emphasizes in a speech a “strained rough voice” at a position where a speaker or user of the speech intends to generate emphasis or musical expression. Thereby, the voice emphasizing device can provide the position with emphasis of anger, excitement, tension, or an animated way of speaking, or musical expression of Enka (Japanese ballad), blues, rock, or the like. As a result, rich vocal expression can be achieved. The voice emphasizing device includes: an emphasis utterance section detection unit (12) detecting, from an input speech waveform, an emphasis section that is a time duration having a waveform intended by the speaker or user to be converted; and a voice emphasizing unit (13) increasing fluctuation of an amplitude envelope of the waveform in the detected emphasis section.

    • An emotion recognition apparatus performs accurate and stable speech-based emotion recognition, irrespective of individual, regional, and language differences of prosodic information. The emotion recognition apparatus includes: a speech recognition unit which recognizes types of phonemes included in the input speech; a characteristic tone detection unit which detects a characteristic tone that relates to a specific emotion, in the input speech; a characteristic tone occurrence indicator computation unit which computes a characteristic tone occurrence indicator for each of the phonemes, based on the types of the phonemes recognized by the speech recognition unit, the characteristic tone occurrence indicator relating to an occurrence frequency of the characteristic tone; and an emotion judgment unit which judges an emotion of the speaker in a phoneme at which the characteristic tone occurs in the input speech, based on the characteristic tone occurrence indicator computed by the characteristic tone occurrence indicator computing unit.

    • A language processing portion (31) analyzes a text from a dialogue processing section (20) and transforms the text to information on pronunciation and accent. A prosody generation portion (32) generates an intonation pattern according to a control signal from the dialogue processing section (20). A waveform DB (34) stores prerecorded waveform data together with pitch mark data imparted thereto. A waveform cutting portion (33) cuts desired pitch waveforms from the waveform DB (34). A phase operation portion (35) removes phase fluctuation by standardizing phase spectra of the pitch waveforms cut by the waveform cutting portion (33), and afterwards imparts phase fluctuation by diffusing only high phase components randomly according to the control signal from the dialogue processing section (20). The thus-produced pitch waveforms are placed at desired intervals and superimposed.

    • To provide a speech synthesis method of reading out units of synthesized speech without fail and in an easy to understand manner, even when playback of the units of synthesized speech are simultaneously requested. The duration prediction unit predicts the playback duration of synthesized speech to be synthesized based on text. The time constraint satisfaction judgment unit judges whether a constraint condition concerning the playback timing of the synthesized speech is satisfied or not, based on the predicted playback duration. If it judged that the constraint condition is not satisfied, the content modification unit shifts the playback starting timing of the synthesized speech of the text forward or backward, and modifies the contents of the text indicating time and distance in accordance with the shifted time. The synthesized speech generation unit generates synthesized speech based on the text having the modified contents and plays it back.

    • The present invention relates to a system switching system in an exchange system in which an ATM switch for exchanging asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) cells is duplexed. In order to switch between ATM switches accurately with drop-out and overlap of cells eliminated, at the input side of the ATM switches, a bit indicating active is inserted into the header of a cell from a transmission line for application to the switch in the active system and a bit indicating standby is inserted into the header of a cell for application to the switch in the standby system and, at the output side of the ATM switches, bits in the headers of cells output from respective switches are referred to and only active indicating cells are selected to be output to a transmission line. Buffers for storing active indicating cells are provided at the outputs of the ATM switches, respectively.
