    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power window safety device which is improved in catch detecting accuracy while suppressing increase in manufacturing cost and degradation in productivity. SOLUTION: The power window safety device is formed of an elevating motor, an operating switch, a light emitting means, a pulse generating means, and a control means. The elevating motor functions to elevate/lower a windowpane of a vehicle door, and includes a rotor having a plurality of protrusions/recesses formed on a peripheral surface at predetermined intervals, and a rotating shaft on which the rotor is mounted. The operating switch issues a forward/backward rotating command to the elevating motor. The light emitting means emits light to the peripheral surface of the rotor. The pulse generating means receives reflective light from the peripheral surface and generates pulses, based on a quantity of the reflective light. The control means inverts the elevating motor and lowers the windowpane irrespective of the state of the operating switch, during elevating operation of the windowpane, based on a cycle of pulses generated by the pulse generating means.
