    • PURPOSE:To realize a multicolor display on liquid crystal which provides only a monochromatic display by arranging >=2 kinds of color electrodes as common electrodes, and driving the common electrodes selectively. CONSTITUTION:The SW3 of a common electrode C1 is turned on to a terminal (a) and the SW4 of a common electrode C2 is turned on to a terminal (b) for a read display. Then when a digit electrode A1 is in a on-display state and a digit electrode B1 is in an off-display state, a switch SW1 is turned on to a terminal C and an SW2 is turned on to a terminal (a). Therefore, a + or -3V rectangular wave is applied between the common electrode C1 and the digit electrode A1 and a driving voltage attains to >=2.0V, so a red-colored film turns on. In-phase signals are applied to the common electrode C1 and digit electrode B1, so the liquid display does not display red. Thus, the common electrodes are driven selectively to obtain a multicolor display on the liquid crystal which provides only a monochromatic display.
