摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the title sound ingot with reduced segregation by reducing the cross-sectional area of an electrode after melting, and simultaneously diminishing the arc current at the time of producing an ingot by consumable electrode-type arc melting. CONSTITUTION:The columnar consumable electrode 1 is melted by an arc to produce an ingot 4. In this case, the electrode 1 with the diameter decreased at one end is used, the large-diameter electrode 1 is melted by an arc from the initial stage of melting to the final stage, the cross-sectional area of the electrode is reduced after melting to narrow the arc zone 2, and the melting current is diminished to a minimum current enough to melt. By this method, a sound ingot 4 with reduced segregation is obtained, and the ingot 4 having uniform structure and composition at every site is produced at a low cost.

Otherwise, melting is executed by the skull melting method, in which high-frequency induction heating in vacuum is used for heat source, and successively a strip is produced in the same way, and further, is subjected to rolling. The strip 4 is preferable to be produced in a thickness of 1-5mm by the twin roll casting method.

摘要： PURPOSE:To manufacture an intermetallic compound excellent in material with good productivity by subjecting a product after burnt and synthesized to vacuum heat treatment at a specified temp. for specified time and directly forming it into a highly densified one. CONSTITUTION:Mixed powder essentially consisting of Ni and Ti is held in vacuum to a temp. or above at which, by the heat of reaction and formation formed by the synthesizing reaction of the mixed powder, the powder can bring about self burning. Heat is inputted to a part of the mixed powder from the outside to start its synthesizing reaction; the heat of reaction and formation is successively propagated to unreacted powder to burn and synthesize an Ni-Ti series intermetallic compound. The product after burnt and synthesized is subjected to vacuum heat treatment at 900 to 1200 deg.C for 3 to 50hr and is highly densified. Or, the product is furthermore subjected to mechanical hot working at 900 to 1200 deg.C at >=50% draft. In this way, an Ni-Ti series shape memory alloy can be manufactured at low cost.

Moreover, it is desirable to carry out treatment, such as application of a coating material for inhibiting oxidation to the material surface, for the purpose of inhibiting oxidation, and further, it is also desirable to carry out rapid cooling at a cooling rate of >=1 deg.C/sec by surface temp. after the above heat treatment. By this method, the slab or billet of the near beta titanium alloy or beta titanium alloy free from segregation can be manufactured.

摘要： PURPOSE:To easily form a high-hardness surface layer practically free from peeling and having sufficient hardening depth by subjecting the surface layer alone of a beta-type titanium alloy after ageing treatment to rapid heating up to a specific temp., to holding, and to rapid cooling and then applying ageing treatment again to the above alloy at a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The surface layer alone of a beta-type titanium alloy previously aged at >=400 deg.C is subjected to rapid cooling so that a temp. of (the beta-transus of this alloy)+250 deg.C or above is reached, to holding, and then to cooling at >=10 deg.C/sec cooling rate. It is preferable that the above-mentioned rapid heating and rapid cooling of the surface layer are carried out by subjecting the surface to rapid heating by means of laser irradiation and then to rapid cooling by means of self-cooling. Subsequently, ageing treatment is applied again to the above alloy at 100-400 deg.C. By this method, beta-type titanium alloy which has a high-hardness surface layer practically free from peeling and having >=0.3mm hardening depth can be obtained.
