    • PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance and strength together with lubricity by subjecting an inside layer material of a cast iron having wear resistance and lubricity and an outside layer material of a cast steel having high strength to a hot static pressure to integrate and join these materials, and thereby increasing the density thereof. CONSTITUTION:The inside layer material 1 of the cast iron and the outside layer material 2 of the cast steel are disposed into a hot static pressure device 6 and are subjected to vacuum evacuation; thereafter, the gaseous pressure P in the equally pressurized state is maintained by an inert gaseous(Ar) atmosphere of a prescribed pressure. A prescribed high temp is attained by a heater 7 simultaneously therewith to generate diffusion joining at the boundary part 3 at and under the high temp. and high pressure and to form a powerfully tightly adhered diffusion joint part 13 as well as to form the upper liner increased in density. The groove faces of the upper liner consisting of the inside and outside layer materials 11, 12 and the groove faces of the lower liner 5 are subjected to buckling build-up welding 8 of a Cr-Mo steel and after the groove faces are mated, the liners are joined and assembled by electron beam welding 9, by which the long-sized and large-sized cylinder liner is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To secure such a highly powered engine cylinder liner that is able to cool an inner surface so efficiently by installing a cooling groove on each mating surface between both inner and outer cylinders, in the cylinder liner that composes a double cylinder consisting of these inner and outer cylinders. CONSTITUTION:In a cylinder liner consisting of an inner cylinder 1 and an outer cylinder 2, a spiral cooling groove 6 is installed in an upper part 26 of a mating surface of the outer cylinder 2. Cooling water is made to flow in as in an arrow 7 and to flow out as in an arrow 8. In addition, the cooling groove 6 is nearer to an inner surface 4 than an outer surface 5, and a flow velocity is also speedier so that cooling for the inner surface 4 becomes favorable. In this connection, the cooling groove 6 is installed in the outer cylinder 2, but it may be installed at the side of the inner cylinder 1. With this constitution, the inner surface 4 is made possible to be efficiently cooled in particular, thus such a cylinder liner that is optimum for a highly powered engine is offerable.
