    • PURPOSE:To uniformly stir in a mold by increasing magnetic field at corner part, by connecting the magnetic pole of coil arranged at each side face of the mold, as becoming it to a different phase with magnetic pole at the same level with the adjoining coil. CONSTITUTION:The coils C1-C4 for vertical stirring are arranged independently at four side faces of the rectangle section mold. The coil C1 consists of U phase and V phase, and the arrangement of the magnetic pole is U' V U V', so as to generate the shifting magnetic field from lower to upper direction. The arrangements are V' U' V U for the coil C2, U V' U' V for the coil C3 and V U V' U' for the coil C4. And, the magnetic pole for each side face corner is connected at becoming it to the different phase with the magnetic pole at the same level with the coils at the adjoining side faces, and the magnetic field at the mold corner part is increased, to increase flow speed of the molten steel at the corner part, and the flow speed of the molten steel is unified at the center part and also the corner part of the mold walls, to stir uniformly in the mold.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the detection of oscillation marks to detect only surface flaws, by arranging eddy current probes in positions of the same phase in the casting direction so that they face front and rear faces of a slab and attaining the difference of signals detected by probes. CONSTITUTION:Oscillation marks 4 due to oscillation of a mold exist on a continuous cast slab 1, and surface flaws 5 such as a surface crack are generated on the upper face of the slab by the stress for straightening. Eddy current probes 6 and 7 provided with magnetic flux generating and detecting coils are arranged with the same phase in the casting direction so that they face an examination face 8 and a reference face 9 of the slab 1. After the impedance change attained from respective detecting coils of eddy current probes 6 and 7 is separated into real part components and imaginary part components, the signal from the reference face 9 is inputted to gain correctors 24 and 25, and the gain is so corrected that the signal from oscillation marks 4 out of the signal from the examination face 8 is cancelled. These signals are inputted to subtractors 26 and 27, and outputs are inputted to an XY display device 30, and the signal of only surface flaws is displayed.

    • PURPOSE: To prevent the lowering of working efficiency for continuous casting operation through discovering abnormal cutting in early time, by analyzing the cutting sound generated when continuously casted slabs are cut by gas cutting.
      CONSTITUTION: The gas cutting is performed with a cutting torch 2 of a cutting apparatus 1 which moves together with continuously casted slabs A fed at a given speed. The cutting sound generated at this time is collected by a microphone 4 in a waveguide 3 and supplied to a noise meter 6. The noise meter 6 obtains sound pressure levels in every frequency in the cutting sound, and sends the sound pressure levels to a data analyzer 7. The data analyzer 7 plots the relation between each frequency and each sound pressure level in a graph, and, when the sound pressure level is lower than a given value, the gaseous pressure is detected with a gaseous pressure detector 9 installed in a gaseous pipe 8 for the torch 2 and the analyzer 7 modifies the sound pressure level values on the basis of the detected gaseous pressures. Then, out of the sound pressure level values of each frequency obtained by the analyzer 7, only the sound pressure level value of a 12.5kHz frequency is fetched through a filter 10 and sent to a sound pressure indicating annunciator 11. The sound pressure level value sent to the annunciator 11 is compared with a sound pressure level value at normal times, and thus, abnormal cutting is informed with an alarm in the early time.
