摘要： A device for protecting a vehicle occupant includes an airbag, a first sensor which detects the presence of an object or of the vehicle occupant in a danger area into which the airbag unfolds as it inflates, and a second sensor for measuring the unrolled belt length of a belt device which is assigned to a vehicle seat. An evaluator controls the inflation of the airbag as a function of the detection of the object or of the vehicle occupant in the danger area and as a function of the belt length. A method for controlling the inflation of an airbag is also provided.

摘要： A determination of optimal energy insertion, or input, results from a measurement of opacity at various heights in a fluid coagulating system and at the same time from measuring a deviation width of the opacity at a lower measuring point. Simultaneously, a continuous comparison takes place of the opacity measured at the various measuring points, which changes with time, and a comparison of the deviation width of opacity. The optimal energy insertion in the fluid coagulating system is achieved if, at each point in time, the opacity at all measuring points is maintained approximately the same and the deviation width of the opacity is maintained at or near a maximum.

摘要： Various processes and apparatus are discussed for an ultra-high heat flux chemical reactor. A thermal receiver and the reactor tubes are aligned to 1) absorb and re-emit radiant energy, 2) highly reflect radiant energy, and 3) any combination of these, to maintain an operational temperature of the enclosed ultra-high heat flux chemical reactor. Particles of biomass are gasified in the presence of a steam carrier gas and methane in a simultaneous steam reformation and steam biomass gasification reaction to produce reaction products that include hydrogen and carbon monoxide gas using the ultra-high heat flux thermal energy radiated from the inner wall and then into the multiple reactor tubes. The multiple reactor tubes and cavity walls of the receiver transfer energy primarily by radiation absorption and re-radiation, rather than by convection or conduction, to the reactants in the chemical reaction to drive the endothermic chemical reaction flowing in the reactor tubes.
