In a process II, silver ions, and halide ions in an amount of >50 mol.% of silver ions are introduced into the dispersion medium to grow the high chloride 100} flat plate-like porticles. In process I, precipitation of the silver halide particle nuclei is started in the dispersion medium, and iodide ions and bromide ions are introduced in a I /Br molar ratio 1×10 :1-5×10 :1 to substitute them for the precipitated chloride, and then, precipitation of the particle nuclei are finished by introducing additional sliver ions and additional halide ions.
