摘要： A gas concentration detecting device for detecting the concentration of a component, such as an oxygen in an exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine. The device has a concentration detecting body 2 for detecting the oxygen and a cover 3 of a double wall structure which is for encircling the portion of the detecting body opened to the flow of the exhaust gas to be detected. The cover 3 has, at its axial tip end wall, a plurality of holes 33 and 34 arranged in such a manner that one of the holes functions as a gas inlet hole and the other hole functions as a gas outlet hole in order to cause the gas to be smoothly ventilated. The cover has, at its side, a wall of a closed structure with no hole for the passage of the gas, which is effective for preventing the cover 3 and the detecting body 2 from being cooled by the exhaust gas, thereby enhancing a heat retaining capacity, thereby preventing particulates from being deposited.

SOLUTION: A tip end 31 of a center electrode 30 is protruded from the end face 22 of a insulator 20 covering the circumference of the center electrode 30, an annular ground electrode 11 is arranged around the insulator 20 via a first discharge gap G1 in a space to the end 31, and a plurality of intermediate electrodes 50 formed of semiconductive material are arranged on the end face 22 of the insulator 20 so as to bypass the first discharge gap G1. The intermediate electrodes 50 have one ends 51 opposed to each other via the center electrode 30 and a second discharge gap G2 and the other ends 52 electrically connected to the ground electrode 11 so that portions on the other end 52 sides are in a helical form around the center electrode 30 to be deviated from a base line K1 connecting the center of the center electrode 30 and one ends 51.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the exhaust quantity of white smoke and noise at the time of cold start-up of an engine. SOLUTION: A fuel injection nozzle 44 of a diesel engine 43 injection-supplies high pressure fuel force-fed from a distributor type fuel injection pump 1, to each cylinder. A glow plug 50 provided at an engine combustion chamber has start-up auxiliary function and ion current detecting function. An ECU 40 judges the diesel engine 43 to be in a cold start-up state and switches the glow plug 50 temporarily into an ion current detecting state from a heating state at the time of cold start-up. The ECU 40 also obtains ignition delay time from the difference between injection start timing and ion current generating timing at the time of cold start-up and computes the target injection quantity and target injection timing at the time of cold start-up on the basis of the obtained ignition delay time. The fuel injection quantity and fuel injection timing by the fuel injection pump 1 are controlled on the basis of the target injection quantity and target injection timing.

Gas circulation holes 32, 24 are formed at positions not to face each other. A heat conduction member 4A is installed between an inner cover body 31 and a heat-sensitive part 1a, whereby a heat conduction route is formed running from the heat-sensitive part la heated to high temperature by a heater 2 to the inner cover body 31 through the heat conduction member 4A. The inner cover body 31 is accordingly heated to high temperatures and an outer cover body 33 is raised to high temperatures by a radiation heat from the inner cover body 31.

Thus, an intake amount supplied for each cylinder of the internal combustion engine 1 is directly measured, and the intake amount for each cylinder is accurately calculated with good responsiveness. Further, a fuel injection amount that takes a desired air-fuel ratio is calculated based on this intake amount.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensing device of such a structure that a gas sensitive part covered by a cover equipped with an exhaust gas flowing hole is protruding in the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine, in which the exhaust gas flowing hole is prevented from clogging with particulates contained in the exhaust gas to lead to suppression of the response delay in sensing and the generation of a sensing error. SOLUTION: A gas sensitive part 1a is covered by an aluminum cover 33 provided on the surface with a platinum thin film electrically insulated from an exhaust pipe 7, and a power supply 81 is furnished to impress a voltage on the cover 33 so that the potential on the cover side becomes negative relative to the wall of the exhaust pipe 7. Thereby, the negatively charged particulates in the exhaust gas are hindered from attaching to an exhaust gas flowing hole 34 and intruding to inside the cover 3 owing to the electric repulsive force from the cover 33, and it is possible to preclude the exhaust gas flowing hole from clogging.

By the catalyst 7, the reversible reaction NO with NO2 in the exhaust gas reaching the measuring electrode 21 of the sensor cell 2 is set to the equilibrium state, and the concentration of NO2 in the equilibrium state is detected by the sensor cell 2. The concentration of O2 in the exhaust gas is detected by an oxygen- concentration detecting cell 3. On the basis of the two detected concentrations and on the basis of the equilibrium constant, of the reversible reaction, which can be found in advance, the total concentration of NOx is found.

A switch 44 is arranged to an auxiliary power supply line 45, bypassing the battery 51 and DC-DC converter 43, and a microcomputer 41 closes the switch 44 for only a predetermined period, when a load is started to supply the power to the load from the battery 50 in addition to the power from the DC-DC converter 43.
