    • There is disclosed a dipping apparatus for dipping components into a liquid. The dipping apparatus comprises an upper support frame configured to support an upper part of the components and being disposed at an upper frame angle (θ U ) offset from a horizontal plane; and a lower support frame disposed below the upper support frame and configured to support a lower part of the components, the lower support frame being disposed at a lower frame angle (θ L ) offset from the horizontal plane. The upper and lower frame angles (θ U , θ L ) of the support frames are configured to orient the components such that any excess coating liquid on the hard disk components drips from a single point. In particular, the dipping apparatus is a dip coating apparatus for coating hard disk components with coating liquid.

    • The present invention relates to a coating applied onto hard disk drive (HDD) enclosures or components with one or more surfaces exposed within the (HDD) clean enclosure resulting in increased reliability by lowering the number and size of free, third body particles. In an aspect of the invention, there is provided a process for coating a hard disk drive component having one or more exposed surfaces within the hard disk drive, the process comprising the steps of: (a) applying a curable coating onto the surface of the component; (b) forming a first barrier layer on the surface of the coating adjacent the atmosphere, wherein the properties of the first barrier layer prevents external water molecules from diffusing through the first barrier layer; and (c) forming of a second barrier layer within the coating and below the first barrier layer.

    • According to the present invention, there is provided a method of monitoring a fluid in a fluid carrying conduit comprising the steps of: monitoring a fluid characteristic at a first point and second point along the conduit substantially continuously; determining first and second quantities, being related to a differential with respect to time of the value of the fluid characteristic at the first and second points respectively; combining the first and second quantities to produce a two dimensional intensity function of time and a position variable and analysing the magnitude of the intensity function to derive information relating to the fluid. The intensity function may represent a substantially continuous probability function, wherein its absolute value is related to the probability of a leak or theft having occurred in the conduit. Furthermore, a method of determining the presence and location of leaks in, or thefts from, the conduit by determining whether or not the magnitude of the intensity function satisfies pre-determined criteria is disclosed. A method of determining the speed of pressure waves propagating through a fluid flowing in a fluid carrying conduit by analysing the two dimensional intensity function is also disclosed. An apparatus suitable for performing all of the above mentioned methods is also claimed.
