摘要： A method of checking and/or varying the fuel to air mixture ratio of an internal combustion engine comprises measuring the intensity of the infra-red emission from the flame during combustion in the combustion chamber by an infra-red photosensitive device and feeding the signal to an indicator, such as a meter, an audible device, or a ''''magic eye'''' device, and/or to automatic control means for effecting any adjustment that may be necessary of the fuel/air mixture ratio. Apparatus comprises a ''''Colourtune'''' spark plug provided with a tubular adaptor comprising an insulating sleeve with a longitudinal slot for the lead of the plug from one end fitting over the transparent core of the plug, and the other end of the sleeve being joined to one end of a tubular metal shield the other end of which houses a detector cell for infra-red emission mounted on an insulated plug eccentrically with respect to the insulating sleeve on the opposite side of the axis to the slot for the plug lead.

In that embodiment switch 30 is shown in the " on " position whereby undimmed brake light illumination occurs when switches 12, 13 are closed and when switch 13 is open dimmed brake lighting is afforded via diode 34. The circuit is such that if switch 30 is " on " but switch 12 inadvertently open full brake light illumination still ensues. Dimming resistor 35 may be replaced by a (concealed) light bulb (e.g. 6 V, 24 W) to obviate delay inherent in the use of that resistor, Fig. 2 (not shown). A tell-tale 31 is included.

摘要： A xenon lamp 24 excited by a lead from an automobile engine H.T. circuit produces a stroboscopic beam which is used to align a timing mark on the crank shaft pulley with a reference mark on the engine casting. The xenon lamp also illuminates the oscillatory end portion 22 of a wire 14. The frequency of oscillation of the end portion 22 is adjusted by a hand wheel 20 until the end portion 22 appears to be stationary. A pointer 31 then indicates the value of the engine rotational speed.
