The present invention relates to a radar detector operating by recognizing a voice, and a control method of the detector. A radar detector according to the present technology comprises: a radar reception unit for receiving a radar signal; a detection unit for detecting a received radar signal; a signal processing unit for processing information of a detected signal; an audio unit or a display unit for informing a user of information of a processed signal; a sensor unit for recognizing a voice; and a control unit for controlling all of the described units. According to the present invention, a satellite signal reception unit can be included in the radar detector so as to use position information included in a satellite signal, or a vehicle black box can be combined to the radar detector so as to control even an image-related function by using a voice. The radar detector according to the present invention uses a voice recognition function to improve operation convenience for a driver and prevent a traffic accident, and is thus expected to contribute to safe driving.
