The invention relates t an electric drive device (2) for wheels (10, 11) of a vehicle axle (1), said electric drive device comprising at least one electrical machine (3, 4), which is connected to drive shafts (8, 9) by means of a gearing device (7). The drive shafts (8, 9) can each be coupled to at least one of the wheels (10, 11) of the vehicle axle (1). According to the invention, at least two electrical machines (3, 4) are provided, the output shafts (5, 6) of which are operatively connected to respective shafts (12, 14) of a summation gearing (13) of the gearing device (7). The summation gearing (13) is connected by means of a further shaft (15) to a shaft (50) of a power split gearing (18) of the gearing device (7). The power split gearing (18) is operatively connected to the drive shafts (8, 9) by means of respective further shafts (19, 20). The invention further relates to a vehicle axle (1) having an electric drive device (2) of this type.
