The invention relates to a metal piece (P) of a generally elongated shape according to a longitudinal direction (A), for making a motor vehicle, comprising at least one edge (11, 13, 21, 23) extending according to the longitudinal direction, at the intersection of two walls (10, 20, 22, 50) of the piece, and at least one area (100) having a mechanical strength lower than the rest of the body of the piece, wherein the at least one area (100) is formed through local thermal control of the piece. The piece being characterized in that the lower mechanical strength area undulates along the edge (11, 13, 21, 23) extending at least predominantly alternately on each of the walls (10, 20, 22, 50) forming said edge.
