The invention relates to a door lock for a motor vehicle (1) with a closing element (2) and a closing device (16), wherein the closing device (16) has a rotary latch (4) encompassing the closing element (2) in a closed position and pretensioned in the direction of an open position releasing the closing element (2), and a catch (7) rotatable about an axis of rotation (10), which catch (7) is engaged with the rotary latch (4) in an engaging position such that the rotary latch (4) rotatable about an axis of rotation (5) is prevented from moving in the direction of the open position. The aim of the invention is to prevent an undesired release of the rotary latch and catch as a result of forces acting on the door lock for the motor vehicle in the event of a crash. For this purpose the closing device (16) has a locking element (17) which, in a closed position, is engaged with a security element (18) blocking a movement of the closing device (16) at least transverse to the direction of rotation of the rotary latch (4) and catch (7).
