A collapsible prosthetic heart valve (200) includes a stent (202) and a valve assembly (204). The stent (202) has an annulus section (240) with a relatively small cross-section, and an aortic section (242) with a relatively large cross-section. The valve assembly (204), including a cuff (206) and a plurality of leaflets (208), is secured to the stent (202) in the annulus section (240) such that the valve assembly (204) can be entirely deployed in the native valve annulus and function as intended while at least a portion of the aortic section (242) is held by the delivery device (1010) in a manner that allows for resheathing. The configuration of the prosthetic valve (200) is such that the valve leaflets (208) can fully coapt and the valve (200) can function properly even when the stent (202) and/or valve assembly (204) become distorted upon deployment or use.
