The invention relates to a supercharged internal combustion engine (1) comprising a supercharger (4) of screw rotor type and equipped with an adjustable inlet port for capacity regulation and, thus, for regulating the expander function at part load. The air to the supercharger/expander is arranged to be preheated by the engine exhaust pipe (3) when the supercharger (4) is active as an expander in order to increase the expander function.
