The present invention provides an optical compensation structure for gray-level improvement of a 4-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal mode. The optical compensation structure for gray-level improvement of a 4-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal mode according to the present invention is to improve gray-level distortion at a side viewing angle while maintaining an excellent contrast ratio, wide viewing angle characteristics, and optical performance of realizing a dark state without a side light leak. The optical compensation structure for gray-level improvement of a 4-domain vertical alignment liquid crystal mode according to the present invention comprises: a vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20) which controls transmittance of external light by applying a voltage and is made of a liquid crystal laid down in four directions; a top polarizer (30) which is arranged on the top of the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20); a bottom polarizer (40) which is arranged on the bottom of the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20); a biaxial film (50) which is arranged between the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20) and the top polarizer (30); and a negative C-plate (60) which is arranged between the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20) and the bottom polarizer (40) and is an optical film of a uniaxial birefringent medium, whose optical axis is vertical to the surface of the film. A top optical compensation film (70) and a bottom optical compensation film (80) are arranged between the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20) and the top polarizer (30) and between the vertical alignment liquid crystal cell (20) and the bottom polarizer (40), respectively.
