Disclosed are an artificial respirator and a method for controlling the same. According to the present invention, based on biometric data about the structural characteristics of an alveolus, an operation signal, which has a respiration amount of smaller amplitude than a preset respiration amount of amplitude for a common person and has a shorter high frequency respiration period than the respiration period of the common person, is generated and then supplied to an inhalation adjusting valve and a positive endexpiratory pressure valve, so that the circulation of the lung, which is the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in in mixed gas, is generated without increasing or decreasing the alveolus. Accordingly, the circulation efficiency of the alveolus can be improved. A patient is provided with high frequency respiration without separated additional devices so that the respirator has a simple structure. Therefore, production processes and costs can be reduced. The durability and reliability of the product are further improved.
