PURPOSE: A machine tool is provided to reduce tool exchange time without a load on each part of a machine and to efficiently exchange tools. CONSTITUTION: A machine tool(1) comprises a spindle head, a spindle(9), an ATC(automatic tool changer)(20), a spindle head moving mechanism, and a control unit. The spindle head is moved between a workpiece machining zone and an ATC area. The spindle rotatably supports the spindle head. The spindle head moving mechanism moves the spindle and the spindle head in the axial direction of the spindle. The control unit controls the spindle head moving mechanism.
