Propulsion device 100 of the present invention includes a case 20, a shaft 31, a propeller 37, the annular housing 40 and rim drive electric motor (50). Case 20 is rotatably supported in the body 10 of the vessel. Shaft 31 is rotatably supported by bearings 32 and 33 in the bottom 22 of the case 20. A propeller 37 is attached to the outer end (31a) of the shaft 31 projecting from the bottom 22 of the case 20. Housing 40 of annular form a duct (45) for running water surrounding the outer periphery of the propeller 37 through the interior of the housing 40 of the annular. Rim drive electric motor 50 comprises a stator 52 provided in the rotor rim 51 and the housing 40 of the annular is provided on the outer periphery of the propeller (37).
