Hybrid waveguide-method mode resonance (GMR) grating, an optical filter and an optical filter employs a distributed Bragg reflection. The hybrid GMR grating comprises a waveguide layer that supports a GMR having a GMR resonant frequency. The hybrid GMR grating further comprises a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) that reflects another portion of the diffraction grating, and the incident signal to the coupling part of the signal incident on the hybrid GMR grating on the waveguide layer. Coupled portion of the incident signal has a frequency corresponding to the GMR resonant frequency. The reflection portion may have a frequency away from the GMR resonant frequency. The optical filter comprises a hybrid GMR grating and coupler. The method includes adding the coupling out the reflected signals from the stage, and a hybrid GMR grating coupled to the optical signal to the hybrid GMR grating.
