A method for indicating a start time for cooking in a microwave oven is provided to allow a user to recognize the start time for cooking by generating an alarm sound. A method for indicating a cooking start time in a microwave oven comprises the step of determining if food is placed in the microwave oven(S10). If the food is placed in the microwave oven, it is determined if a time for cooking is set-up(S11). If the time for cooking is set, a waiting time is counted from the set-up time for cooking(S12). Then, it is determined if the counted waiting time exceeds a first set-up time(S13). If the counted waiting time does not exceed the first set-up time, it is determined if a start key for cooking is pressed(S18). If the start key for cooking is pressed, the counted waiting time is reset(S19), and then the cooking is initiated(S20). If the start key for cooking is not pressed, the procedure returns to a step of counting the waiting time.
