PURPOSE:To shorten the molding time of a compacted coal, and to improve the coal-charging capacity, by integrally molding a compact cake having a volume corresponding to the amount of the coal to be charge to each charging hole, dividing the cake into columnar cakes corresponding to the size of the charging hole, and charging the cake into the carbonization chamber through the charging hole. CONSTITUTION:A compacted cake 34 having a volume corresponding to the amount of coal to be charged through each charging hole into a carbonization chamber 21 furnished with plural charging holes 22 is molded by integral molding. The cake is pushed out upon the charging hole 22, divided into columnar cakes 50 each corresponding to the size of the charging hole 22, and charged through the charging hole into the carbonization chamber 21. The charging of coal to a coke oven can be carried out thereby.
