PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating a cis/trans isomer mixture of 2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid by which the mixture is separated with little HF generation, and an apparatus made of a general purpose material can be used. SOLUTION: A cis/trans isomer mixture of 2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid is esterified to provide the cis/trans isomer mixture of a carboxylic acid ester, and the obtained ester isomer mixture is subjected to distillation separation to provide cis- or trans-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester. The obtained cis- or trans-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid ester is hydrolyzed to provide the objective cis- or trans-2-fluorocyclopropanecarboxylic acid in the method for separating the cis/trans isomer mixture of 2-f luorocyc lopropanecarboxylic acid.
