PURPOSE:To provide a semiconductor type lightning arrestor which prevent malfunction by electric noise by omitting a gate signal generating circuit. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor switch circuit 3 consisting of a photothyristor 4 is connected in series with a gap 2. A light transmitting path 6 consisting of, for example, an optical fiber is provided between the photothyristor 4 and the gap 2, and the light of gap discharge by the overvoltage at lightning is introduced into the gate of the photothyristor 4 so as to trigger the photothyristor. Hereby, the semiconductor switch circuit 3 is turned on, and the system is earthed.
