PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbonaceous refractories which have a reduced dissolution rate in carburization while maintaining their thermal conductivity and slag resistance, and become wet in molten iron, in particular, in molten pig iron, and a production method therefor. SOLUTION: An organic binder is added to a mixture obtained by incorporating 5 to 15 mass% alumina fine powder, 5 to 15% metallic silicon fine powder, and one or more kinds selected from vanadium, niobium, tantalum, and the carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides of these elements by 5 to 20 mass% in total into a 50 to 85 mass% carbonaceous raw material consisting of roasted anthracite, calcined coke, natural graphite or artificial graphite, or their mixture as the main raw material, and, kneading and compacting are performed thereto, this compact is burned in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to obtain the carbonaceous refractories. By using the refractories as the lining materials for the side wall parts and furnace bottom part of the pouring basin of a blast furnace, the consumption of the lining materials caused by hot metal dissolution can be reduced, and, simultaneously, their wear caused by flowing hot metal can be reduced, and the service life of the blast furnace can be elongated.
