To efficiently combust ammonia in an ammonia combustion engine.SOLUTION: An ammonia combustion method comprises: adjusting ammonia decomposition gas obtained by decomposing ammonia using an ammonia decomposition catalyst 14a so that an equivalent ratio of hydrogen contained in the ammonia decomposition gas is equal to or higher than a predetermined lower limit value, then supplying it to an auxiliary combustion chamber 24 communicating with a main combustion chamber 22 through an ejection hole, and igniting and combusting it under an excessive fuel condition; ejecting excessive-concentrated combustion gas mixed with unburned hydrogen from the ejection hole into the main combustion chamber 22 as a jet torch flame; and igniting and combusting premixed gas of ammonia and air supplied to the main combustion chamber 22 by the combustion of the unburned hydrogen with the jet torch flame.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
