PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recognition error or the like by intensifying contrast between an object and a background.
SOLUTION: An image recognition device includes: a recognition unit which visually recognizes an image of an object; a placement unit for placing the object; and an illumination unit for illuminating a region where the object is placed. The placing surface of the placement unit has concavo-convex parts with reflective surfaces that have different reflectance with respect to illuminating light from the illumination unit.
