PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modular prosthesis that may be implanted through a highly minimally invasive incision.
SOLUTION: A modular prosthesis 8 may be implanted in a highly minimally invasive incision. Specifically, the modular prosthesis includes a neck 10 and an anchor 12. Both the neck and the anchor are configured to be inserted and connected together through a lateral aspect of a long bone adjacent to the proximal end of the long bone. In one exemplary embodiment, the neck includes a body having a head end, configured for attachment to another prosthetic component, such as a corresponding articulating component, and an aperture 18 extending therethrough. The anchor may be sized for receipt within the aperture formed in the neck. Additionally, the anchor may be configured such that the anchor engages the walls forming the aperture in the neck to secure the components together.
