The present invention provides a deoxy sugar and glycoside from a solution derived from biomass, including a way to separate the deoxy sugars and glycoside and recovery.
The present invention relates to the recovery of such deoxy sugars as fucose from a solution derived from biomass, such as spent liquor obtained from the pulping process. The present invention also relates to the recovery of glycosides from biomass. The present invention is based on the use of chromatographic fractionation by a particular column packing material and combinations thereof with water as eluent. Deoxy sugar product obtained from the chromatographic fractionation may be further purified by crystallization. The present invention also relates to novel methods for the novel crystalline L- fucose product and crystallization of fucose.
