PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyolefin having physical properties excellent in characteristics of transparency, impact resistance and the like compared with known products. SOLUTION: In the method, a 4-30C cyclic or acyclic olefin represented by general formula (I) is polymerized using a catalyst for addition polymerization to produce a polymer. In general formula (I), R 1 -R 4 may be the same with or different from each other and indicate an atom or group selected from a hydrogen atom, hydrocarbon group, halogenated hydrocarbon group, silyl group-substituted hydrocarbon group, and hydrocarbon group-substituted silyl group; either of R 1 and R 2 and either of R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen; and, of the groups indicated by R 1 -R 4 , mutually adjacent two groups may be bonded to form a ring together with the carbon atoms to which they are bonded.
