PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle that prevents the performance of the air conditioner or functions of other power consumption devices than the air conditioner from being blocked by considering the suppliable electric energy and switching to driving by a prime motor that does not consume electric power when the electric energy consumed by the hybrid compressor is excessive.
SOLUTION: This air conditioner for a vehicle includes a prime motor for driving the vehicle, an electric motor driven by power supply, a hybrid compressor having two compression mechanisms of a first compressor mechanism driven by the prime motor and a second compressor mechanism driven by the electric motor, and a means for selecting a power source for the compressor for selecting either the prime motor or the electric motor as a driving source of the compressor, and the means selects the electric motor in accordance with the electric energy of power supply that can be supplied to the electric motor as a driving source for the compressor after receiving information on stop of driving of the compressor by the prime motor for driving the vehicle.
