The present invention relates to a military vessel (1) with a directable weapon (7, 8) and an aerial (9, 10), wherein the aerial (9, 10) can be swivelled from a first position, in which the aerial is arranged substantially vertically, into a second position, in which the height of the aerial above the vessel is reduced in comparison with the first position to increase the directing range of the weapon (7, 8). The invention also relates to a method for operating a military vessel with a directable weapon and an aerial, wherein the aerial is swivelled from a first position, in which the aerial is arranged substantially vertically, into a second position, in which the height of the aerial above the vessel is reduced in comparison with the first position to increase the directing range of the weapon.
