The present invention relates to a rotational torsion tester and in particular to a torque applying unit (100, 1100) which comprises a cylindrically shaped casing (100a, 110, 1100a, 1110) which is rotatably supported, and an electric servo motor (150, 1150) fixed in the casing. One end of a joint shaft (170, 1170) is connected to a drive shaft (152) of the electric servo motor whilst the other end of the other end of the joint shaft protrudes outward from the casing. The casing has a shaft part (120, 1120) having a cylindrical shape, a bearing (123, 124, 1123, 1124) provided on an inner circumferential surface of the shaft part; and the joint shaft is rotatably supported by the bearing.
