The invention relates to a method for applying a film (5) to a carrier (4), for example to a plastic card, said carrier being at least partially coated with the film in an irreversible manner. The inventive method is characterised by the following steps: the carrier (4) is prepared; the carrier (4) or the film (5) is coated with a thin layer of a transparent bonding agent (8) which is hardened under the action of electromagnetic waves; or a film coated with a thin layer of a transparent bonding agent (8) hardened under the action of electromagnetic waves is provided; the carrier (4) and the film (5) are brought together; the carrier (4) and film (5) are compressed by means of an at least small compression force; and the bonding agent is hardened under the action of electromagnetic waves, especially under the action of light (9). The invention also relates to a device for applying the inventive method.
