The invention relates to an automatic detection system for positioning of a transformer body falling into a box. The automatic detection system comprises laser ranging sensors arranged at the positions of clamping pieces on the lower portion of the transformer body, a wide-angle camera arranged at the bottom of an oil tank, a safety light curtain arranged at the bottom of the oil tank and a display terminal arranged in an operation room. The laser ranging sensors and the wide-angle camera are in wireless connection with the display terminal. The invention further relates to an automatic detection method for positioning of the transformer body falling into the box. The automatic detection system mainly comprises the camera, the light curtain, the multiple laser ranging sensors and the like.By means of the detection method, intelligent real-time monitoring of the transformer body falling into the box can be achieved, only monitoring and adjusting need to be conducted on a display screenand the upper portion, and dangerous operation such as manual monitoring of the transformer body falling into the box at the bottom of the transformer body is not needed.
