The invention relates to the field of biological technology renewable energy, in particular to piromyces CY1, a novel method for producing hydrogen through straw fermented with the piromyces CY1, andan application of the piromyces CY1. The piromyces CY1 (Piromyces CY1) disclosed by the invention is preserved in the China General Microbiological Culture Collection Center, and the preservation number is CGMCC NO.18141. The invention also discloses a method for producing the hydrogen through anaerobic fermentation of straw with the piromyces CY1 (Piromyces CY1) and an application of the method to biological hydrogen production. The piromyces CY1 disclosed by the invention can passage and survive through preservation in vitro, and fermented straw can produce massive high-concentration hydrogen; and besides, the fermentation technology is simple, requirements for equipment are low, and the novel method is convenient to popularize, and has important industrial application value and development prospects in the industrial field.
