The application provides an air conditioner and a control method thereof. The air conditioner comprises an indoor unit and an outdoor unit, wherein the indoor unit comprises an air exhaust pipe (1); the outdoor unit comprises an outdoor heat exchanger (2); and an opening of the air exhaust pipe (1) is arranged in an air inlet area of the outdoor heat exchanger (2). According to the air conditionerof the application, no additional heating device is needed to be added, and the excess or waste heat of the air conditioner can be used fully to increase the rate of energy utilization and reduce theenergy consumption.
