The invention discloses a foaming agent for cement foaming and a preparation method of the foaming agent. The foaming agent is prepared from redispersible latex powder, methyl cellulose ether, metakaolin and calcium bentonite. The foaming agent is simple to prepare, low in cost and good in stability, can be only subjected to a reaction once meeting alkaline matter and is easy to store and transport, closed bubbles are formed by volume shrinkage of the foaming agent in a use process without production of any hazardous gas, a special stirring device for quick stirring or any foam stabilizer is not needed,, and a foaming process is simple and convenient to use. The foaming agent is easily and uniformly mixed with concrete materials, the produced bubbles are mild and uniform, and the foaming material is uniform in pore size, lower in connected pore rate and good in performance.
