The invention discloses and provides a material identification system and a material identification method. The material identification system comprises an identification panel, a voltage source and adecision circuit, wherein the voltage source transmits a voltage signal to a to-be-tested object through the identification panel to obtain impedance of the to-be-tested object, and the voltage source adjusts frequency of the voltage signal in a preset range to seek specific frequency when the impedance of the to-be-tested object is lowest; the decision circuit is used for judging whether the specific frequency of the to-be-tested object conforms to specific frequency of any material among multiple known materials to indentify the material of the to-be-tested object. The material identification system can identify the material of the to-be-tested object.
