A method and an apparatus of line buffer reduction for context adaptive entropy decoding are disclosed, wherein the method comprises the steps of determining the context of the syntactic element of a current block in a processing area according to the block information of the adjacent blocks, wherein the area corresponds to the row of a maximum coding unit; if the adjacent blocks are located at the upper part of the area boundary of the area relative to the current block, substituting the block information to substitute the block information corresponding to the adjacent blocks; according to the context, executing the context adaptive entropy decoding of the syntactic element. The method and an apparatus of line buffer reduction for context adaptive entropy decoding provided by the present invention can reduce or remove the row buffer demands effectively.
