The invention provides a picture processing method used for an intelligent terminal. The picture processing method comprises steps of firstly, receiving a picture processing instruction; after the picture processing instruction is received, triggering to detect whether an image processing engine of the intelligent terminal supports a preset processing mode; if yes, requesting a picture corresponding to the preset processing mode for a server; and if not, requesting a picture corresponding to other processing modes supported by the image processing engine for the server. Compared with the prior art, before the request for an image is made for the server, whether the image processing engine of the intelligent terminal supports the preset processing mode is detected at first, and then a corresponding picture is request for the server specifically, thereby achieving that an excellent processing mode is automatically selected based on hardware conditions of the intelligent terminal. Thus, processing ability for the pictures can be improved; operation speed and fluency of application programs are improved; and usage experience of users is improved.
