The method may comprises the steps of: monitoring whether a target social network account has chat information to be synchronized in the case that the target social network account logs in multiple pieces of terminal equipments; acquiring unlocking information of the terminal equipment, of which the chart information needs to be synchronized, in the multiple pieces of terminal equipment, if the target social network account has the chat information to be synchronized is monitored at a target time; determining the terminal equipment of which an unlocking mode is the non-secure unlocking mode to be first terminal equipment according to the unlocking information, wherein the non-secure unlocking mode comprises unlocking by numeral passwords or patterns; and controlling to not synchronize the chat information to be synchronized to the first terminal equipment. According to the method and the device provided by the invention, the problem about inconvenience in some application scenarios due to the fact that in the prior art the chat information of the same social network account are synchronously displayed on the different terminal equipment without distinction can be solved, and thus user experience is enhanced.
