The invention relates to a novel surge protector comprising a lightning protection element, a temperature sensor, an over-current protection device, a thermal protection device, a time delay stepping electromagnet, an induction piece, a breaking contact, an arc extinguishing gate, an arc extinguishing magnetic blow-out board, a signal detector, a signal transmission line, an over-current protection device detector, a data unit, a connecting line, a connecting terminal, and an upper wiring terminal and a lower wiring terminal. The lightning protection element and the over-current protection device are connected in series to form a surge releasing passage. The temperature sensor senses the temperature of the lightning protection element and converts the temperature information into current information; the current information is inputted into the time delay stepping electromagnet; after a power current flows through the surge releasing passage, a mechanical linkage is triggered by the time delay stepping electromagnet; the breaking contact is disconnected to disconnect the surge releasing passage. Therefore, a problem of a potential safety hazard caused by unknown motion blind areas of the existing thermal protection device and over-current protection device, the unknown motion situation of the thermal protection device, and the unknown working situation of the lightning protection element can be solved.
