The invention relates to a method and a device (100) for aligning printing plates on printing cylinders (110). The method comprises the steps of: detecting defined first and second positions based on previously detected, printing-cylinder individual correction values for a first and second printing cylinder; arranging the first printing cylinder (110) outside a printing machine in a first receiving position; providing a first printing plate; positioning the first printing plate on the first printing cylinder (110) in a defined first position; capturing first position data of the first printing plate positioned on the first printing cylinder (110); arranging the second printing cylinder outside a printing machine in accordance with a second receiving position; providing a second printing plate; positioning the second printing plate relative to the second printing cylinder in a defined second position; capturing second position data from the second printing plate positioned relative to the second printing cylinder; checking the first and the second position data based on the defined first and second position; correcting the positioning of the second printing plate if the result of the examination is negative.
