The application discloses an equipment configuration method which is applied into the configuration process of an intelligent electronic device (IED) of an intelligent substation. The equipment configuration method comprises the following steps: receiving a CID (Configured IED Description) file of an example configuration file of the IED; carrying out configuration on the IED according to an ICD (IED configuration description) file of a capability description file in the IED, wherein the ICD file of the capability description file comprises a function configuration file, a resource mapping relation and a communication configuration file. The equipment configuration method disclosed by the application has the advantages that the resource mapping relation and the communication configuration file needed in the configuration process of the IED are preloaded into the ICD file of the capability description file, the CID file of the example configuration file only needs to be received in the configuration process, while the CID file can be derived from the substation configuration description (SCD) file by a general derivation tool, and a special derivation tool is not required for deriving the resource mapping relation and the communication configuration file from the substation configuration description (SCD) file, so that the problem handling period of the IED is shortened.
