The invention discloses an improved natural excitation technology-based steel framework damage diagnosis method, which solves how to effectively extract damage diagnosis indexes aiming at the vibratory response of a steel framework structure under natural excitation so as to perform online damage monitoring of the steel framework structure by using the damage diagnosis indexes. The traditional natural excitation technology-based damage diagnosis method is improved by comprehensively adopting the combination of a virtual pulse response function extraction technology and a wavelet packet analysis technology; and the method has the advantages of damage sensitivity and strong natural excitation robustness, and is suitable for online damage monitoring of members such as steel framework beams, columns, nodes or supports or the like.
